Reactive support waits for something to break. Proactive support looks for trouble
before it affects you.

**The reactive model**

A user reports a problem, a technician investigates, and eventually it’s fixed.
Costs include downtime, frustration, and urgent work.

**The proactive model**

Monitoring tools watch your systems continuously and alert technicians to early
warning signs.

**What gets monitored**

– **Disk space** running low

– **Failing hardware,** such as drives, memory, and temperature

– **Server and service health**

– **Backup success and failure**

– **Patch and update status**

– **Security alerts** and unusual activity

– **Network devices,** internet connectivity, and Wi-Fi

– **Certificates and licenses** nearing expiration

**Examples of problems caught early**

– A server disk filling up before applications crash

– A failing drive replaced before data is lost

– A failed backup noticed the same day, not months later

– An expiring certificate renewed before the website shows warnings

– A device missing critical patches

**Benefits**

– **Less downtime**

– **Lower long-term cost**

– **Better security**

– **Predictable maintenance** at convenient times

– **Data for planning,** such as capacity and replacement forecasts

**Limits**

Monitoring tools are only useful if someone watches and acts on the alerts. Ask
who responds, how quickly, and at what hours.

**Questions to ask a provider**

1. What do you monitor, and how are alerts handled?

2. Who responds after hours?

3. What reports will I receive?

4. How do you reduce false alarms?

**Combine both**

Even with great monitoring, you still need responsive human support when something
unexpected happens.

**DBR Soft’s managed services combine proactive monitoring with responsive support.****
