Microsoft 365 Copilot adds generative AI to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and
Teams. It’s powerful, but results depend on how you deploy it.

**What it does**

– Summarizes long email threads and meetings

– Drafts documents and presentations from existing content

– Helps analyze data and build formulas in Excel

– Answers questions using your company’s own files, emails, and chats

It respects each user’s existing permissions, which means messy file permissions
can expose information to people who shouldn’t see it. Fix permissions before rollout.

**Strong use cases**

– **Meeting follow-up:** summaries and action items

– **Email triage:** summarizing and drafting replies

– **First drafts:** proposals, reports, and communications

– **Research and synthesis** across internal documents

– **Excel analysis** for non-experts

**Measuring return**

1. Select a pilot group with varied roles

2. Record baseline time spent on target tasks

3. Track time saved, quality, and satisfaction after several weeks

4. Compare the license cost to the value of time saved

5. Expand where the benefit is clear

**Pitfalls**

– Buying licenses for everyone without a plan

– Skipping training and prompting guidance

– Trusting outputs without review. AI can be wrong.

– Poor data hygiene

**Start with readiness**

Clean up access permissions, label sensitive data, and set an AI usage policy before
enabling Copilot.
