If you’ve decided you need on-premises servers, the physical form matters.

**Tower servers**

Look like large desktop PCs. Quiet, simple, and cheap. Ideal for small offices with
one or two servers and no server room. They take up floor space and scale poorly.

**Rack servers**

Mount in a standard 19-inch rack, measured in “U” heights (1U, 2U, etc.). Space-
efficient, easier to manage in bulk, and designed for dedicated server rooms or
cabinets. Louder, and require proper cooling and a rack.

**Blade servers**

Thin servers sharing a chassis for power, cooling, and networking. Highest density
and efficient at scale, but expensive upfront and typically only worthwhile for
large environments.

**What to consider**

– **Growth:** how many servers in five years?

– **Space and noise:** is there a proper room?

– **Power and cooling:** can your site support it?

– **Redundancy:** redundant power supplies and hot-swap drives for critical workloads

– **Management:** remote management (iDRAC, iLO, XClarity) is invaluable

– **Warranty:** 24/7 on-site support for critical servers

**Don’t forget cloud**

For many small businesses, a hybrid or cloud-first approach avoids buying servers
at all. Compare the three- to five-year cost.

**Rule of thumb**

– 1–2 servers, small office: tower

– 3+ servers or planned growth: rack

– Large, dense environments: blade or hyperconverged systems

**DBR Soft sells and supports servers from leading vendors and can design the right
solution for you.** **[Contact us to further discuss this subject.](https://dbr-soft.com/contact/)**
